Position Overview
Novelis Oswego has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Engineer! The primary focus of this position is working closely with Manufacturing, Materials, and Engineering teams in the assurance that all manufacturing operations are capable of providing materials and services that satisfy company requirements. Provide focused quality engineering support primarily within the Manufacturing portion of the Quality Systems. Be responsible for assignment of component quality requirements using auditing and risk-based decision-making techniques, including assessing gauging techniques and competency, writing quality plans, and coordinating technical requirements with appropriate groups. Manage the manufactured product portion of the non-conforming process, ensuring that appropriate root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented and quality data is trended and reported upon on a routine basis.
Responsibilities
Practical implementation of manufactured/component systems and procedures for meeting TS16949 standards. A minimum requirement of the ISO standard is required.
Review and perform routine and in-process audits in accordance with TS16949 standards. Ensure that modifications are documented and compliance is demonstrated through objective evidence.
Provide daily general manufacturing performance metrics to Management and Engineering staff.
Support and train in Lean/Six Sigma/Belt initiatives to remove variability and reduce cost to improve quality and reduce the cost of manufacturing operations as requested.
Identify root causes for scrap and major sources of waste on the line.
Disposition non-conforming product based on mechanical, chemical, or surface properties of the product.
Investigate any mechanical or chemical testing failures in manufacturing process and give recommendations for further testing.
Issue Quality Alerts for sustained quality issues on the manufacturing lines.
Participate in Customer complaint issues.
Work on various projects assigned by the Quality Leader.
Document defects from Manufacturing Operations and analyze their root causes.
Facilitate corrective actions within the manufacturing operation and validate effectiveness.
Provide feedback to Operators on the quality rejections of manufactured product.
Ability to use appropriate software to gather and report data on manufacturing performance.
Ability to use continuous improvement techniques for problem solving.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Four year degree in Engineering field or related technical discipline required.
Computer literate.
Statistical training required.
Willing to travel occasionally.
Knowledge of manufacturing operations required.
Knowledge of appropriate computer based programs.
A thorough knowledge and understanding of the use and application of statistical quality assurance methods.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Experience with and/or train in PPAP, Control Plans, FMEA's, and problem solving techniques.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
